There are several types of tournaments which Bowl BayArea promotes.  Below is a brief decriptions of each one.

Northern California Match Games:

The Bay Area’s premier one-day scratch tournament is the Match Games.  The format consists of 8 games of match play.  Games 2-8 are all position rounds.  Standings are kept in 1 of 2 ways.  A pinfall based match games rewards bowlers with bonus pins for match play wins, so the standings are kept by score + bonus.  The second way standings are kept are by the number of match play wins first and pinfall second.  Northern California Match Games XVII drew 76 bowlers and the Champion received $1550 out of a total prize fund of over $7800.

The “Triangle” Series:

The Bay Area’s most unique tournament is the Triangle.  The Triangle is a 9- game tournament that features 3 games in 3 different centers on 1 day.  The centers are roughly 10-15 minutes apart in most cases.  Both scratch & handicap divisions are offered.  Past Contra Costa Triangles have used Paddock Bowl, Diablo Lanes, & Clayton Valley Bowl as their centers.  The Tri-Valley Triangles have used Danville Bowl, Earl Anthony’s Dublin Bowl, & Granada Bowl to make the 9-gamer.

Women's Division:

Strictly for women only.  Scratch and handicap divisions are both offered.  Our women's events are averaging over 50 entries per tournament!  The goal in 2010 is to run 7 events involving women; 5 singles events, a mixed doubles, & a 4 player team tournament.

Nor Cal Team Championships:

This is a four player team event that requires teams to have at least 1 man & 1 woman.  In a 1 day format, teams bowl 3 regular games in the morning.   After  a break, teams return to the lanes for 12 games of Baker competition.  A Baker game is where the four players alternate frames in a single game.  Both scratch & handicap divisions are offered.

“20 Max”:

20 Pins of handicap is the Maximum here.  These events are for bowlers whose average is 219 or below.  Any bowler who has won $1000 or more in a scratch event in the past 12 months is also ineligible.  Different formats are the norm here, but some type of match play is usually involved.  Both Singles & Doubles events have been previously held.

Senior Division:

This division caters to bowlers Age 55 & above. Handicap & Scratch divisions for both men & women will be offered. The 2010 plan will be four or five singles events + 1 doubles tournament. The handicap will be 90% of 220.
